THE MINDFUL COMMUNITIES™ APPROACH
Pause to understand and act with greater clarity
When stress builds up, it can be difficult to recognize the early signs of overload, express what is happening, or listen to different perspectives. In a group, tensions can grow before people have found the words to discuss them.
The Mindful Communities™ approach creates space to slow down, notice what is happening, and begin a conversation. Participants try simple practices, explore the resources available to them, and consider what could change in their environment. Together, they identify a possible first step, individually or collectively.
The approach brings together mindfulness practices, guided reflection, and participatory dialogue. It also draws on active listening and the principles of Nonviolent Communication.
What informs our approach: Our work is informed by Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program; Rick Hanson’s work on resilience and positive neuroplasticity; Kristin Neff’s research on self-compassion; and the principles of Nonviolent Communication developed by Marshall B. Rosenberg.

How it works
Between action and reaction, there is a space. We work to expand that space.
We invite participants to pause, reconnect with what matters and pay closer attention to what is happening—within themselves, between people and across the wider system in which they operate.
The quality of presence and attention then becomes central.
We listen not only to what is said, but also to what is expressed through the body, and to what remains unexpressed:
habits that have become invisible, tensions that have not yet been named, and possibilities that are struggling to emerge.
Within that space, participants can move beyond automatic reactions and choose to act in alignment with their values, their intentions, and the reality of the situation.

4. Act
1. Pause
2. Connect
Move forward with greater clarity, awareness and intention.
Step away from the usual pace and automatic patterns. Turn inward and notice what you are experiencing in your body and emotions.
